What is an affiliate program?

To put it simply, it is just a referral program. Businesses and merchants have been offering referral fees, discounts and other incentives for hundreds of years in exchange for more business. It is really a smart way to advertise. Imagine if I tried Cherry 7-Up one day and loved it so much that I told you, my friends, family and everyone I know about it. Now, take it a step further. What would happen if the 7-Up company gave me a tracking code to handout so that every time anyone I know ordered a Cherry 7-Up, I would make money? I could get really motivated about Cherry 7-Up.

More than 10 years ago, some early marketing geniuses thought this might work great on the Internet because of the tracking capabilities available. One of the earliest companies to really promote affiliate marketing was Amazon.com. They didn't invent it, but they certainly took it to new levels. You can still be an affiliate of Amazon.com, but I will warn you the commissions are paltry.

If you are really thinking about affiliate marketing, here are a few ideas:

1. Set up a blog (website log – kind of like a diary) on Blogger.com, which is owned by Google. Didn't they invent the Internet, I can't remember??? Start writing some content on tax liens, tax deeds, foreclosures, small businesses or something related and place a link with the code we give you. The code will allow our merchant account to track your sales. The key is to make the content relevant. So if you have a website selling stuffed animals, that's not relevant, it won't work and above all search engines don't like it.

2. Set up a free web hosting account at http://webatu.com. If you want to get a little fancier, you can buy a domain name and point it to this free account. Or you can have a web hosting provider host your account for less than $10 per month and you can maintain your domain name without having a base domain. You can even find a nice free web authoring program or HTML editor by searching for Kompozer on any search engine. I use it and it works great.

3. Social networking is here to stay, so I suggest you embrace it at least a little. The two giants are Facebook and Twitter. Set up these accounts, but only as icing on your marketing cake. That's really all they are.

4. Don't forget about search engine optimization, or SEO as it is called. As you probably know, Google represents about 65% of all searches, followed by Yahoo! and Bing. Learn the tricks that won't get you banned. Basically, the more relevant content you have, the better.

5. Do you ever wish you could incorporate texting into your business without giving out your personal cell phone number? There are now ways to set up electronic business cards and capture contact information. Ask me about this one. If you don't already know, email is dying and texting is in. Text messages get opened more than 95 percent of the time and within about 1 1/2 minutes. If this interests you, please let me know. I will send you a free report on text messaging.

6. Video marketing is not just YouTube anymore. If writing is not your passion, maybe speaking is. Learn more about getting your message out through video and audio.

I think Internet marketing is a lot of fun. I love to talk about it and I love showing real estate and tax lien investors and small business owners how to make it work for them. Let's work together as partners. To find out more, visit www.rogueinvestor.com/partner_program.html or email us at partnerinfo@roguetaxlieninvestor.com.

If you would like for us to set up a new, one-page website for you using one of our templates, place your affiliate code on it, and link you up so search engines find you almost immediately, contact us as soon as possible. You can use your new website for selling your products, our products, promoting yourself, building extra traffic to another website, and selling your real estate or tax liens.

Or, if you have an existing website that needs help, either through more effective search engine optimization and traffic building, or converting your existing visitors, contact us so we can help.

Believe me, this newsletter is not intended for drumming up web design work. I tried that as a side business about 10 years ago and the pay is severely limited in comparison to the time and client's expectations. Nevertheless, I would be happy to quote you a reasonable price and work with you on a project basis that would benefit us both.

You benefit by securing another means of cash flow. I benefit by having a partner actively selling our products.

Cheers to Your Online Success,

Michael Williams
