International Paper Company is a global forest products, paper and packaging company that is complemented by an extensive distribution system, with primary markets and manufacturing operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Pacific Rim and South America. The Company's businesses are separated into six segments: Printing Papers, Industrial and Consumer Packaging, Distribution, Forest Products, Carter Holt Harvey and Specialty Businesses and Other. As of December 31, 2002, the Company owned or managed approximately nine million acres of forestlands in the United States, mostly in the South, approximately 1.5 million acres in Brazil and had, through licenses and forest management agreements, harvesting rights on government-owned timberlands in Canada and Russia.
