Real Estate Agent

Real Estate Agent

An individual who works for a real estate broker, but acts as the broker’s salesperson to conduct business.  A real estate agent helps buy and sell property and in exchange is given a commission from the sale.  A real estate agent has a fiduciary responsibility to act in the buyer or seller’s best interest depending upon the arrangement.

Tips for home buyers:

  1. Find one or two real estate agents that will find you properties.  If you are a real estate investor, find at least one agent that has experience with government foreclosures.
  2. If you are confident about an agent abilities, a buyer's agency agreement will allow him/her to work on your behalf.  They should not be paid until they find you a house and any payment should come from the sale. Usually, the agent/brokers will split commissions.

Tips for sellers:

  1. Get references for any real estate agent you are considering.  Selling a home is a huge deal and one of the most important decisions you will make in your life and it involves a lot of money.  Be picky.  A good agent will work hard for you and get the best price.
  2. Consider trying to sell your home on your own.  You can make thousands of dollars more if you don't use an agent.  However if you want to sell your house without an agent you must price the house near market value and be patient.  Visit us for more information on how you can get the best price possible for your home when you decide to sell.
